public gear video - location unclear
Oh, hey! It did a thing!
[Two faces pop up on the screen, against a beautiful blue sky; the framing makes it clear that the Gear is on the ground, and neither of the two figures are making any attempt to frame their shot whatsoever. One is a young man who is smiling at his incredible achievement of turning on a Pokegear; the other is a rather exasperated-looking Vulpix. The latter reaches a paw out, puts it on the screen, and begins chittering to the human… who actually seems to understand.]
When the red light is on, it’s recording… okay, got it.
[The Vulpix squeaks again.]
“Say something”? Alright… [The young man rearranges his position in front of the Gear a little bit. One can see that he appears to be wearing purple-and-tan robes with really creepy eye designs on the collar.] Well, people in there, my name’s Henry and I’m from the country of Plegia! My interests include dark magic, nature walks, explosions, murders, explosions with murders— what?
[Henry looks down. The Vulpix can be heard screeching angrily, probably telling him to stop before he gets himself turned in to the police on day one. There is a short scuffle for control of the PokéGear; flashes of amber fur and claws can be seen, the audio becomes nothing but extremely staticky wooshes, and eventually the feed cuts out.]
action - goldenrod rocket hq
[Good morning, Goldenrod Rocket Base. How’s your day been so far? Woke up, stretched a bit, eaten breakfast? Picked up the cup of dirty water that passes for coffee in this joint? That’s good. Everything you’ve just done is normal, and in here, normalcy is a valuable commodity.]
[A commodity that won’t last for much longer, because Henry the dark mage has just woken up in the building.]
[This morning, yet another Grunt seems to have joined the ranks. It’s a young man who can’t be much older than twenty, with snow-white hair and a standard issue uniform. ...Well, “standard issue” except for the part where he has some kind of cape thrown over it. (Uniform regulations? What uniform regulations?) By his side, a Vulpix is walking and grumbling bitterly, and if one looks closely they might see a Murkrow making herself comfortable in the Grunt’s collar.]
[He’s also going around touching things. The walls, the furniture, his Pokemon, your face…]
Ooh, your skin feels nice! It’s super soft!
[Look, just bear with him. He hasn’t had a working sense of touch for quite a few years.]

Date: 2014-10-01 03:54 am (UTC)[Sometimes he curses his natural sense of curiosity. But that was kind of an out-there statement. Did this kid have some sort of condition?]
[action]
Date: 2014-10-02 01:15 am (UTC)[He sounds so... happy... about it...]
[action]
Date: 2014-10-06 04:15 am (UTC)It's actually kind of interesting. He doesn't often hear of medical issues in non-natives.]
And you only recently regained your sense of touch?
[action]
Date: 2014-10-06 04:33 am (UTC)Mm~hm! When I got here.
[action]
Date: 2014-10-07 04:31 am (UTC)This world truly is something, and even after years spent here, I still find ways to be surprised by it.
[...Okay that said, who actually is this kid.]
Who might you be, anyway? You must have arrived very recently, because I don't recognize you at all.
[action]
Date: 2014-10-07 10:28 pm (UTC)[People have been trying to answer the "who is this kid" question for ages. No one's ever succeeded.]
[action]
Date: 2014-10-14 03:26 am (UTC)[He certainly didn't waste any time rolling out the self-importance, did he?]
Might I ask what sort of skills you're bringing to the organization?
[AKA, is there anything he can take advantage of later on?]
[action]
Date: 2014-10-14 01:37 pm (UTC)[Dist's self-importance (and the conversation in general) is making Henry casually fall back into military terms. He doesn't speak much more professionally, granted, but at least he remembers to call people 'sir' and 'ma'am' now.]
Well, normally I would tell you that my specialty is honing and channeling the power of the great unknown, sir, but it looks like someone's shut off my magic. But I still know a lot about theory! [Mmm, what else...] I've fought in the armies of both Plegia and Ylisse -- as a mage, obviously -- and even without magic, I know fifty-three ways to rip someone's arms from their body!
Also, I can talk to animals.
[action]
Date: 2014-10-16 04:08 am (UTC)Research and development. I create new toys for the organization, essentially.
[All that follows though...Henry, why...
CASUALLY IGNORING THE DISGUSTING PARTS...]
I'm afraid those armies mean little to me, but I also happen to have experience with magic and the military. Unfortunately, this world has a terrible habit of removing all magical abilities. The creatures we have been saddled with make a decent enough substitute, at least.
You can talk to animals, hm...? Did that ability carry over to this world? That would be incredibly useful to have here, if so.

Date: 2014-10-16 03:33 pm (UTC)[Henry's genuinely beaming now. YAY HE GETS TO BE HELPFUL!]
